Brown Bess (BRITAIN)

The lighter and faster shooting version of this gun was used in the war of 1812. This gun was produced by the East Indian Company. Through the Napoleon wars there were over 3 million brown bess rifles in combat.The only difference between the lighter and faster gun and the even newer gun was reinforced steel instead of wood on the barrel.




The Brown Bess was produced in 1722. It was good for its time. It was produced from 1722-1860's. The variants of the Bess were: Long Land Pattern, Short Land Pattern, Sea Service Pattern, India Pattern, New Land Pattern, New Light Infantry Land Pattern Cavalry Carbin.
