Conclusion

In conclusion, I think that the weapons used in the War Of 1812 were pretty powerful. I think that they were very cool weapons and that I should learn even more about them. I think hat the artillery was cool, and I didn't know that they were that advanced even in 1812. I think that the weapons and certainly the artillery were cool in this war.

Native American Weapons

This next section is the section about a group of people who brought us a big help in the war of 1812. Who are we talking about? The Native Americans and their weapons. In the war of 1812 the Native Americans weren't quite as advanced as the British and the Americans. But, they still had some good weapons to use. The Native Americans were the stealthiest of the 3 countries and worked smartly and stealthy. They used weapons with blades such as tomahawks, and swords. They also used bows and arrows on horseback and from trees. They did have some muskets, usually old, but they were good with them and had good aim.

Artillery (Both countries)

There were many uses of artillery in the war of 1812. The main bombs used were howitzers and mortars. They were huge cannons that shot out big bombs that could go over walls and blow fortresses up. Howitzers could be used for straight shooting as well as shooting like a mortar over walls. Because the mortar could not have its elevation changed to any great degree, the gunpowder charge was changed to how much range was needed.

(AMERICAN) 1795 Springfield

1795 Springfield- Copied from the 1766 model French musket, the 1795 Springfield infantry musket was the very first official model musket of the United States. Initially with the bayonet on the bottom of the barrel, this was rotated to the top of the barrel in 1797 and the look remained the same to the end of the War.. The musket gets its name from the first government armoury of the United States in Springfield, Mass. Today the armoury is a National park.

The gun had a 69 Caliber musket ball barrel, and was a flintlock action rifle. It was shot by good soldiers 2-3 shots per minute.

This is a video of a man shooting the Springfield 1795 Rifle.

Brown Bess (BRITAIN)

The lighter and faster shooting version of this gun was used in the war of 1812. This gun was produced by the East Indian Company. Through the Napoleon wars there were over 3 million brown bess rifles in combat. The only difference between the lighter and faster gun and the even newer gun was reinforced steel instead of wood on the barrel.

The Brown Bess was produced in 1722. It was good for its time. It was produced from 1722-1860's. The variants of the Bess were: Long Land Pattern, Short Land Pattern, Sea Service Pattern, India Pattern, New Land Pattern, New Light Infantry Land Pattern Cavalry Carbin.

Baker rifle (BRITISH)

RATE OF FIRE The rifle couldn't shoot as fast as a musket. As the small balls had to be wrapped in patches of greased leather. A good rifleman could shoot a Baker rifle 2-3 shots a minute and was expected to shoot that quickly. Using a power charge, the riflemen could shoot at long range. In the Napolean war, riflemen used paper patches and even bare rifle balls when shooting in a hurry in battle, with an increase in speed of loading, but with worse accuracy.

Accuracy was more important than rate of fire when fighting. The rifleman's main battlefield role was to cover and skirmish when his musket armed enemies in the line infantry fired in volley or mass-fire. This could make the rate of fire worse

The baker rifle was introduced from 1798-1800. It's weight is 9lb and its ball size is 0.6 in for a lead ball and the weight can be from 1-3lb.

A bayonet was a very cool part of the baker rifle. Used in many wars, a bayonet is a very sharp sword attached to the end of a gun used to stab close enemies. It was a good part of this rifle and was used in many wars.

                    Weapons of the 1812 war

First we are going to tell you about the British army's weapons. They are primarily rifles. Then, in a few of the next posts we will tell you about the American army's rifles and artillery. They were less advanced then the British, but they still were a force in the war with good ships and artillery.
